Repairs Past the Surface

Major Home Repair Baton Rouge Homeowners Can Count On

Big damage is stressful. A clear written scope tells you what is wrong, how we fix it, and what it costs.

Some repairs are too big for a handyman. A tree comes through the roof. A slow leak rots the bathroom floor. Water gets in the house and the walls have to come out. We handle the structural side — framing, subfloors, siding, and trim — and then finish the room so it looks like nothing ever happened.

Baton Rouge learned a lot about rebuilding after the 2016 flood, and many homes here still carry repairs from that year. Bobby Smith has 19 years of construction experience and gives you a written scope you can hand to your insurance adjuster. If water was the cause, read our guide to rebuilding after flood damage before work begins.

Damage You Can't Ignore

Signs Your Baton Rouge Home Needs a Major Repair

These problems get worse and cost more the longer they sit.

  1. Soft or Sagging Floors

A floor that dips or bounces often means the subfloor or joists below have rotted.

  2. Storm or Tree Damage to the House

Broken rafters, crushed walls, and torn siding need structural repair, not just a patch.

  3. Walls Soaked by Flood Water

Wet drywall and insulation have to come out so the framing can dry before rebuilding.

  4. Rotted Siding and Exterior Trim

Peeling, swollen boards let water into the wall. We replace them with wood or fiber-cement.

  5. Cracks and Doors That Stick

New wall cracks and doors that won't close can point to framing or floor problems underneath.

From Damage Check to Finished Repair

Damaged material comes out, framing dries or gets replaced, and the structure is made sound.

  4. Rebuild, Finish, and Repair Warranty

Walls, floors, siding, and trim go back, we walk it together, and our warranty backs it.

South Louisiana Repair Know-How

Why Homes in Baton Rouge Need Major Repairs

Water, wind, and insects cause most of the serious damage we fix in this area.

What the 2016 Flood Taught Baton Rouge

The August 2016 flood put water in thousands of area homes. Rebuilds must dry fully first.

Hurricane Winds and Falling Trees

Storms like Ida in 2021 dropped big oaks and pines on roofs across south Louisiana.

Slow Leaks and Subfloor Rot

In this humidity, a small leak under a tub can rot the subfloor before anyone notices.

Termite-Damaged Framing

Formosan termites hollow out studs and sills. We replace damaged wood once the pest company treats it.

Pier-and-Beam Floor Repairs

Older raised homes have crawl spaces where damp air wears on joists and sills over time.

Fiber-Cement Siding for Wet Climates

Fiber-cement resists rot and insects, so it is a common replacement for worn wood siding here.

"I used Precise Design Construction for my investment property. This was only the second property that I have purchased and rehabbed. The first time my experience was not good, but that was due to my contractor. This time around, I used Precise Design Construction, and they were with me step by step in this process. The best part was their communication, professionalism and of quality of work. I highly recommend them and will be using them with my next purchase again."

Repair Questions

Major Home Repair FAQs

Will you work with my insurance company on a damage claim?

We give you a written, itemized scope and price that you can send to your adjuster, and we answer their questions about the work. We can't promise what your policy will pay — that decision is between you and your insurer. Our job is to document and fix the damage.

How soon after a flood can you start rebuilding?

Not until the framing is dry. Wet drywall, insulation, and flooring come out first, then the wood needs time to dry — often a few weeks in our humidity. Closing walls over damp studs leads to mold. We check moisture levels in the wood before rebuilding.

Can you fix a rotted subfloor without redoing the whole room?

Often, yes. If the damage is in one area, such as around a toilet or tub, we cut out that section, repair any bad joists, and lay new subfloor. The finished floor over it has to be replaced, and matching old flooring is not always possible.

Should I replace damaged wood siding with fiber-cement?

Both work. Wood matches older homes and is simple to patch in small spots. Fiber-cement holds up better against moisture and insects, which matters in Baton Rouge. If only one wall is damaged, we usually match what is there. For a full re-side, we price both.

A tree hit my house — what should I do first?

Make sure everyone is safe and stay out of damaged rooms. Take photos, call your insurance company, and have the opening covered to keep rain out. Then call us during business hours. We will look at the framing and give you a written scope for the repair.
