Building in the City of Central

A Builder for Central's Bigger Lots and Growing Families

Central has room to build. That changes what homeowners here ask for.

Central became its own city in 2005, but it still feels like the country next to Baton Rouge. Lots off Sullivan, Hooper, and Joor roads are bigger than most in the parish. That means room for a custom home, a detached garage, a mother-in-law suite, or a real back porch. New subdivisions keep going up too, drawn by Central's own school system.

Water is the other thing to plan for. Central sits between the Comite River and the Amite River, and many homes here flooded in August 2016. We check the flood zone and how the lot drains before we draw anything. Then we set the slab height, grade the yard, and place the new building where water won't sit.

Central Project Steps

How We Build and Permit a Project in Central

Central has its own permit office, so the paperwork is a little different than in Baton Rouge.

  1. Central Lot and Home Walk

We look at the house, the yard, and where water goes when it rains hard.

  2. Plan and Price for Central

We draw the layout, list the materials, and give you one written price.

  3. City of Central Permit Filing

We file with Central's own permit office and meet the inspectors on site.

  4. Central Build and Closeout

We build in order, clean up the lot, and walk the finished work with you.

"Definitely loved working with the company to get my house remodeled…they we fast and efficient. But most of all they were patient with me because I was lost on what type of design I wanted lol…BUT I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THOUGH"

Brooks Family Enterprises

Google Review

"I used Precise Design Construction for my investment property. This was only the second property that I have purchased and rehabbed. The first time my experience was not good, but that was due to my contractor. This time around, I used Precise Design Construction, and they were with me step by step in this process. The best part was their communication, professionalism and of quality of work. I highly recommend them and will be using them with my next purchase again."

Central FAQs

Common Questions About Building in Central

Does Central issue its own building permits, or do I go through East Baton Rouge Parish?

Central handles its own. Even though the city sits inside East Baton Rouge Parish, permits and inspections for Central addresses go through the City of Central's office, not the City-Parish office downtown. We file there for you and keep the permit posted on site until the final inspection.

Can you build a detached garage or workshop on my lot in Central?

Yes. Larger lots here often have room for one. We check setbacks from the property line, flood zone rules, and where power will come from. Then we pour the slab, frame, roof, and finish it to match your house. A permit is normally required, and we handle it.

My Central home flooded in 2016. Do I need to do anything special before adding on?

Possibly. If the house is in a mapped flood zone, the new space may have to be built at or above the base flood elevation, which can be higher than your current floor. We check the flood map and talk with the permit office early so the plan is right.

How long does it take you to get to Central?

About 20 to 25 minutes from our Baton Rouge office, depending on traffic. Central is one of the closest areas we serve. That makes it easy for us to come measure, bring samples by, or check on a job between scheduled visits without losing half a day on the road.
