Slidell sits on the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain, across the Twin Span from New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina pushed a storm surge through much of the south side of town in 2005. Since then, many homes have been raised or rebuilt up on piers and pilings. In canal neighborhoods like Eden Isles, a lot of the living space now sits well off the ground.
That height changes the work. Raised homes need stairs, landings, decks, and porches that stand up to sun, damp air, and wind. The space under the house has rules about what can go there. Can you build a deck or porch on a raised home in Slidell?

Is my Slidell permit handled by the city or by St. Tammany Parish?
