Cabinets to Countertops

Kitchen Remodeling Built Around How Baton Rouge Families Cook

A good kitchen has room to work, light where you need it, and cabinets that still close right ten summers from now.

The kitchen is the hardest-working room in a Baton Rouge house. It handles weekday dinners, crawfish boil prep, and everybody standing around the island on game day. When the cabinets sag, the counters are chipped, and two people can't pass each other at the stove, it's time. We rebuild kitchens from the studs out or just replace what's worn.

Bobby Smith has 19 years of construction experience, and he prices your kitchen in writing before anything is ordered. Cabinets, countertops, backsplash, lighting, and plumbing all run through one contractor, so nobody is waiting on somebody else's crew. Wondering what drives the cost? Read our Baton Rouge kitchen remodel cost guide before you set a budget.

Is Your Kitchen Worn Out?

Kitchen Problems We Fix in Baton Rouge Homes

Most kitchens we remodel have at least two of these going on at once.

  1. Sagging or Water-Swollen Cabinets

Particleboard boxes swell under a leaky sink. We replace them with sturdier cabinets that hold up.

  2. Too Little Kitchen Counter Space

A new island or a longer run of countertop gives you room to prep and serve.

  3. Dark Kitchen With One Ceiling Light

Recessed cans, under-cabinet strips, and pendants over the island light every work surface evenly.

  4. Cramped Galley Kitchen Layout

Taking out a wall or moving the sink opens the kitchen to the den or dining room.

  5. Cracked Tile and Dated Backsplash

New backsplash tile and fresh grout protect the wall behind the stove and sink from grease and water.

From Measuring to Cooking Again

How Your Kitchen Remodel Gets Done

Four steps, in order, so you know when the kitchen goes down and when it comes back.

  1. Kitchen Measure and Layout Talk

We measure the room, look at plumbing and wiring, and talk through layout and budget.

  2. Cabinet and Countertop Selections

You pick cabinets, counters, tile, and fixtures, and we put the full price in writing.

  3. Kitchen Demo and Cabinet Install

Old kitchen out, plumbing and electrical updated, then cabinets, countertops, and backsplash go in.

  4. Kitchen Walk-Through and Punch List

We check every door, drawer, and outlet with you and fix anything that's off.

Local Conditions That Shape a Baton Rouge Kitchen Remodel

Heat, humidity, and slab foundations change which materials and layouts make sense here.

Humidity and Cabinet Doors

Wood swells in our damp summers. We pick cabinet materials and finishes that stay flat and close right.

Kitchen Plumbing in a Slab

Moving a sink across the room means cutting concrete. We show you layouts that avoid it.

Venting Heat From the Stove

A range hood ducted outside pulls heat and steam out instead of pushing them around the kitchen.

Old Wiring in Older Kitchens

Kitchens in homes from the 1960s and 1970s often need new circuits for today's appliances.

Kitchen Permits in East Baton Rouge

New plumbing, gas, or electrical work needs a permit. We file it and meet the inspector.

Hidden Leaks Under the Sink

Slow leaks rot cabinet floors and the wall behind them. We repair the damage before new cabinets go in.

Kitchen Questions

Kitchen Remodeling FAQs

How long will my kitchen be out of use during a remodel?

Plan on several weeks for a full kitchen with new cabinets and countertops. Stone counters are measured after the cabinets are set, then cut, so there is a gap built into every job. We help you set up a temporary spot with the fridge and microwave while the work is underway.

Can you keep my cabinet boxes and just replace the doors and countertops?

Sometimes. If the boxes are solid wood or plywood, square, and dry, new doors, drawer fronts, and counters can make sense. If they are swollen from leaks or coming apart at the joints, new stone on top of them is money wasted. We'll check them and tell you straight.

Is it expensive to move the kitchen sink or stove in a slab house?

It costs more than leaving them where they are. Most Baton Rouge homes sit on a concrete slab, so a new drain line means cutting and patching the floor. Moving a gas line adds a permit and inspection. We price both layouts so you can compare before deciding.

Should I pick granite or quartz for a Louisiana kitchen?

Both hold up well here. Granite handles hot pots better and each slab looks different. Quartz never needs sealing and has a more even color, but it can scorch under a hot pan. We go over the upkeep for each and you choose what fits how you cook.

Can you take out the wall between my kitchen and living room?

Usually, yes. First we find out whether the wall carries the roof or ceiling load. If it does, a beam goes in to carry that weight, and the work needs a permit. Wires, pipes, or ducts inside the wall get rerouted. You'll know the full cost before we cut.
